Samsung PN60F5300 Review
60" Plasma TV, $1549
RedLine

Performance

I guess it's time for me to stop reviewing plasma TVs because I have run out of superlatives for their picture quality. Therefore, I use one that I penned on page one, mouthwatering.

Literally and figuratively, mouthwatering. As I was watching one of my favorite shows and calmly admiring the consistently luscious picture, I was startled by my Pavlovian response to the final shot, a close-up of a pizza box opening.

As the pie was revealed, the succulent green of the basil against the shimmering deep red of the tomato sauce actually impelled my mouth to water.

Granted, I rarely experience such a visceral response, but if the shot is well executed, the F5300 plasma TV will deliver with flying colors and your eyes will salivate.

Oh, if your ears were so sumptuously treated by the pair of 10W speakers integrated in this TV, your drums would be beating a merry tune. Alas, the speakers cannot compare to the plasma display.

Samsung PN60F5300 Sound Menu

Samsung provides a limited set of audio adjustment tools. But seriously, you just bought a divine 60-inch plasma TV, show the display some respect and match it with a high-end sound bar at the very minimum and better yet, a dedicated 5.1 or 7.1 or 9.1 audio system.

Conclusion

With the PN60F5300 plasma HDTV, Samsung has shaved the features on the unit down to the essentials, no Smart TV and no 3D. What remains is an easy to use device with killer picture quality. Combine that with a current online price of $799 and this 60-inch plasma earns our Highly Recommended award.

Plasma TVs will be a disappearing breed in 2015. If you are a fan of this velvety display technology, it's time to take the plunge.
