SunBriteTV 4660HD Review
46" LCD All-Weather HDTV, $2795
Performance
I'll admit that I am becoming spoiled reviewing high-end plasma and LED backlit TVs. The picture quality of these beauties is not only excellent but also consistent.
By that I mean that no matter what content I throw at it, the picture looks good and I don't feel the urge to reach for the remote and tweak away.
I will admit that I was able to tune in the SunBriteTV 4660HD to my satisfaction. And the display of Blu-rays was excellent.
But as I was switching from source to source and channel to channel, I could feel that tug to grab the remote and revisit the Picture Menu for a little fine tuning.
Simply, the picture quality was not consistently up to the high standards that the TV occasionally achieved.
It may be voodoo, but I did find that the TV was more consistent when it warmed up. Even then, the picture tended to be too hot, as was evident with overly red skin tones.
With that said, the picture was always acceptable and outside in bright sunlight, you may never be able to discern the differences while cheering on your team.
(I should note that the manual states, "Under all conditions, the LCD TV should be installed in a shaded area where the screen is not facing direct sunlight [or placed/mounted where the TV can easily be turned away from direct sunlight].)
As for the audio performance, the pair of 20W integrated speakers sounded good. Even with the volume pumped to the maximum, the speakers didn't rattle or hum.
The audio menu is pretty basic. You might want to play around with the Surround mode. I find it tends to dilute the voice too much.
And next, in my reviews, I usually say to achieve better audio fidelity that you should buy a dedicated surround sound system. But in an outdoor installation, the normal non-weatherproof audio systems would not be appropriate.
Conclusion
The SunBriteTV's Signature Series 4660HD is built to withstand the elements and it definitely earns its title of a True Outdoor All-Weather LCD Television.
The display is a meat and potatoes old tech CCFL backlit LCD, which produces a rugged workmanlike picture, certainly good enough for lounging around the pool or tailgating at the big game.
