My Experience: was able to purchase new for 800.00. At this price point it is an excellent set. Image quality is excellent very easy to set up and connect to a ps3 via hdmi. ps3, blu-ray and over the air HDTV broadcasts look great. I'm very pleased with the performance visually.
very good contrast range and very nice blacks after tweaking the settings a bit.
Problems: the Haier's seem to be infamous at this point for terible remotes. the remote is very slow to respond and cheap. I'm not sure why but instead of light up keys it has a LED flashlight built into the tip...I really can't imagine why. I upgraded to a harmony logic 880 universal remote and that has solved any remote issues...
the angle of view is probably a bit narrower than higher priced sets... the set is watcheable from all angles but the image does flatten out when viewed from off center. This does not truely affect the ability to enjoy the set from off axis, but if for some reason off axis viewing is very important to you, you should probably check out another set.
only 1 HDMI input.. many newer sets have 2 HDMI's.
image control: although there are setting for contrast, brightness, tint, color, sharpness, color balance, DNR... they are somewhat rudimentary. you can definitely improve upon out of the box picture quality, but if you are truely unhappy with what your seeing, don't expect any dramatic improvements with these controls.
