My Experience: I purchased this set from ShopNBC back in December of 2005.Initially I was dismayed by the blurriness of the picture and thought something was wrong so after weeks of phone-work and emails and internet-searches,I was able to actually get some response--not from ShopNBC or Vivitek,but from Delta Electronics,a sister company--and I exchanged it.The 2nd one looked as bad and had a buzzing noise going through the speakers.So,I gave it one more chance.I mean by all means with the technology this set has,it should be really good.While waiting for the 3rd set,I researched HD and gained a better understanding.I just had to wait for media-technology to catch up with the tv's.When I got the 3rd set,I ordered a digital HD satellite package and got an HD DVD player and the right cords and VOILLA!The picture is great and it has performed well ever since.
Problems: Recently, I changed the lamp because I noticed a humming noise coming from the back of the set while I was watching it and it was really annoying especially during quiet moments in movies.Of course, I knew it wasn't the lamp and was probably the color wheel but I didn't want to admit that to myself.I thought it was going to be an expensive repair.I did some research on-line and found www.vancebaldwin.com. They have many parts for many brands including Vivitek.You will be redirected to encompassparts.com. Do a "Guest"login and then type in your model# such as: RP51HD41A and they give you a whole list of parts for Vivitek.$90 bucks and I had a new color wheel.Now, how to go about doing this myself... After I got the back of the tv off and looked around, it was actually very obvious to see where I was going and how I had to get there.Within an hour I had it all done and I got an HD DVD ready in the player and turned the tv on and...it worked!The picture looks great.I couldn't even hear the tv start up and no humming noise!I'd be happy to help anyone else who has questions.I might not have all the answers,but maybe I can help.I have been through a lot with my tv and have done a lot to it and learned a lot about it. I know Vivitek is not the most customer-service oriented company to deal with--that's why we need to help each other.I paid a lot for this thing and I never wanted to give up on it.
